Weather Station.

As always you get what you pay for....If money is not the key driver and accuracy is your goal.....I would invest in the Davis Instruments 6163 Vantage Pro2 Plus with Solar Radiation and Ultra Violet sensors and a Aspirated Radiation Shield  fan aspirated model. This delivers a much more accurate temp reading especially if your station is situated in a sunny spot.

I would also recommend the remote Anemometer/sensor transmitter kit....this gives you the flexibility to mount the wind sensors in a better (higher) location than the base unit to enhance wind speed readings and direction.

If any questions let me know...

I'm fearful to ask how much that costs lol

I believe it's around $300

love the daily sky view time lapse it provides!

I clicked on the link and saw $762,000 plus and had a heart attack .  I  quickly realized that was the funding. it's around $300 for the base unit and about $150 for the rain gauge.

Looks pretty cool but I wonder what details and measurements you get compared to Vantage Vue or other stations.

Yea I would be curious of the accuracy of it

I'd still go Davis, but I've had enough troubles with sensors running hot in the sun that I've got all three parts separate now, which wasn't easy (involved trenching a cable from rain gauge to temp sensor since their separate transmitters don't work for rain gage as a standalone). My rain gauge is in the open back yard, the temp sensor is in a shaded nook of the house, and the anemometer is on the chimney.  I basically did the same thing in NJ too now, too.

did you find that it did run to hot? If so by how many degrees?

My dad bought another Vantage Vue. He snapped the wind vane on mine while moving and elevating it a little more. Think we are going to set up the broke one up down the beach at some point. But have been extremely happy with both.

you should put the vue in the shade and see if there is a difference between the two at your place.

I have both the Vantage Vue and the Vantage Pro running. I like the Vue a lot - easier set up and cheaper...however the Vue and most home thermometers run warm...unless you pay a little more and go for the fan aspirated heat shield. I really does make a difference and delivers a more accurate temp.

  • 5 months later...

Been a while since this topic was touched so I'll fire it back up with a question.

Has anyone seen anything from Davis Instruments or Ambient Weather that has a mobile app to bring up a screen similar to their consoles? Also, without integrating it in Wunderground, etc, in order to get the readings from the station?

I have not seen anything out there that has mobile app functionality that would get data from the home weather station. Just curious if the technology has come that far.

I am in search of a stand-alone wireless anemometer (JUST an anemometer) that I can remotely view on an iPhone app...

Suggestions appreciated!

Thanks Tom...

But, jees, is it possible that know one produces such an “animal”. I really don’t want to buy a “complete” (iPhone accessible) weather station as I already have all the components other than the wireless anemometer⁉️

Other feedback appreciated!!

Davis Instruments has an Android/Iphone app that works with Davis Weather Link. It shows current conditions at your station and Hi/Lo for the day

Let me know if this is what you had in mind

Thanks Paul...

Im looking for JUST the anemometer as I have a netatmo system that handles everything else extremely well at my OCNJ location. However their anemometer leaves a lot to be desired so I want to replace it with something more reliable/accurate...

...Still searching...🧐
