August 2016 in Chester County PA - 23rd warmest since 1894

Recommended Posts

As some of you know I write a quarterly weather article for the township here in East Nantmeal. The editor sent me a note and said she heard it was the hottest August ever in Philly at PHL (I have not looked at final stats so no idea if that is true at PHL) and she assumed it was the same in our fair county. I told her to hold on a minute and let's check it out. I went back and looked at our data and found that not only is it not the hottest August ever (records in Chester County since 1894) but the average temp of 74.6 for August 2016 while +2.6 above normal for the higher elevations of Chester County (1983- Present) only make it the 23rd warmest August since 1894. In fact in just the last 20 years we have had 6 years with a warmer August than this one (2005/2003/2002/2001/1999/1998). Rainfall for the month was 3.13" or 1.13" below normal.
