Meteorological Spring Banter Thread

We must stop this talk of fairytale snowstorms now, we must concentrate on warm breezes, cool water, girls in bikinis, me in my pool and a cooler full of beer on the deck.

The smell of bratwurst and hamburgers cooking on the grill, you decide whether it's gas or charcoal.  The sound of de-husking corn, and slurping of the fresh watermelon.  The wife yelling at you because you fell asleep in your hammock when you were supposed to be cutting grass...good times.

Went skiing at Blue Mountain today.  They actually got 3” at the base and 6” at the top during the Monday/Tuesday event. However, they were hoping for a repeat Friday and that was a major fail, no snow even above 1000’ and almost an inch of rain.  Ski patrol said it just crushed their machine made snowpack.  The objective is to stay open until St Patrick’s Day weekend for a spring carnival.

this winter for them was basically our 13/14 or 14/15

Yup...I moved back to Philly from LA in late spring 2021 with 14/15 being the last winter I spent on the east coast. If this snowless EC/generationally cold/wet/snowy SoCal had been my first back here I would have definitely been over the ledge

What ever happened to Chescowxman? Used to be a frequent poster.

Both he and Charlie were warned to stop the back/forth debate about Chester County's climate that were derailing OBS threads.  Charlie kept posting here, he stopped.

That's a shame that it didn't resolve satisfactorily.

Climate change denialism is on the wane.

Did I see Donner Pass in the Sierras just hit the 600” mark for the season? Crazy. They still have probably a month or so more of snow season

Thought I saw a tweet this morning that they did, maybe it was just an estimation. I have no doubt they'll pass that

There are going to be nuances with elevation and more hospitable boundary layer conditions north and west that are not going to be resolved until near go time, but for us poor sufferers along the coastal plain, we are likely tied to the upper low passing over us to sufficiently cool the column.  To this end Dr. HOT (GGEM) is similar to Dr. NOT (ECMWF).  So we have that going for us.  image.png.987bf2a5cc20afe240c37ed086baf064.png

So many great t shirt ideas, lol

Meh, I actually thought this period (March 10 to 14) was the best shot all “winter” to get a storm which gave MBY over an inch of snow. Should have figured I wouldn’t even see one snowflake. Ah well, at least I can say this is the least snowy that I can recall in my lifetime (even worse than the winter of 2001-02).

On my phone, on my stock samsubg browser, this site doesn't work.  I need to use a different browser.  So weird

Similar thing was happening earlier today  on my iPhone. Site would not load - just a blank white screen. It has been fine recently though.

So this showed up on my twitter feed since I follow a lot of winter weather posters throughout the US, basically record snow pack out west, highest water equivalent since 1982-1983. I did some digging into PHL’s data, thinking “what a lousy winter that must have been.” Surprisingly, that was a fantastic year for PHL with 37.9” of snow. Best explanation I could find was that was a Nino, a strong one at that. Either way, it was before my time.
