The more they try (and they are trying) to make the GFS better, I don't know where the issue(s) lie.

Well from someone who works more on the technical side of things, I can tell you firsthand that you can have all of the talent in the world on your team but you’re only as good as the available technology/frameworks that are available to you, which require funding, budgets, etc. and that’s where I’ll stop and say it’s a rabbit hole I can debate on another day…

True, true, true.

Once again the 18z GFS shows why it is @tombo82685's favorite run of the day....

Well anyway as much as I can post 18z GFS runs til the figs stop producing, going to follow the same suit as last cold season.

GFS usefulness starts a little past day 8.  It has been stuck there since 2016. To make it simpler and give it a half a day break, I will look at the highest predicted snowfall (10:1 ratio, we all know it is not perfect, but I can't Cobb the European) for any sounding run within 192 hours (day 8).  Andddddd, to not let the European, he of day 9 Heisy snowmaggedons, totally off the hook, I will do the same for it again up to 192 hours.  Let the best model forecast the most snowfall win...

Euro with early lead within 8 days of 3.5" vs _______?

This was the Friday before Thanksgiving and that went well.

Now this take a dive Friday ( Dec 9th) again system

Euro had 0.7" today.  GFS had 0.2" on other sites but not the official EMC site that I have been using for qpf comparisons.  I am going to have to make a decision as to which site to use.

The GFS shutout is over.  Going to go with EMC site with them as that is the one I use for snowfall in the evaluation.

So far the Euro is in the lead.

Friday before Thanksgiving Euro 3.5" vs 0"

The Shredder Euro 0.8" vs 0" (so far)

The Blocker Euro 0.2" vs 0.6" (so far)

The Eye Opener  (TBD)

If only the 06z GFS could count thru its entirety.  More than the average seasonal snowfall total for DC & PHL before Christmas.

Friday before Thanksgiving Euro 3.5" vs GFS 0" vs 0" actual

The Shredder (12/9) Euro 0.8" vs GFS 0" vs 0" actual

The Blocker (12/11) Euro 0.2" vs GFS 0.6" vs 0" actual

The Eye Opener (12/15-16ish) Euro 7.7" vs GFS 0" (saved the best for 6z & 18z)

The Christmas Present (12/22-23ish) Euro 3.4" vs GFS 0" (thru 192hrs, looks like it is going to have its work cut out for it this time)
