Meteorological Autumn Banter Thread

Just an observation, but the local black walnut and hickory nut trees did not drop their usual hundreds and hundreds of nuts this year. I would say maybe 10%-20% of what they've normally dropped over the last 5-10 years? Not sure if it means anything, but interesting nonetheless.

Being a former IBM employee, that's why it is called Wunderground, cause its a "wunder" it works at all. 🤣

A week later, no response at all.  Do you think if I just re register the station under another name and e mail address, it will start displaying/reporting?

That's exactly what I had to do when mine stopped reporting.  Go into your profile on Wunderground and look for "My Devices" and you'll be able to delete the station and recreate it.  It will be a different station id than before, you won't be able to get the old ID back. Use your same e-mail address.

It didn't work unless I had to use a new name.  I am seeing the information thru live data, so it is communicating.  Just not meant to be I guess.

Ambient told me that Wunderground servers are just dropping on line stations.  I e-mailed them, so maybe by Christmas they will fix it.

As y’all know, I do not have an automated weather station, just a digital thermometer and my rain gage. I do have a coupleof nearby Wunderground stations I check, mostly for local rainfall. I have noticed that some have been listed as being offline. I had wondered what was going on and have an answer. Tyler

The name shouldn't be an issue. When you deleted and recreated the device, did you end up with a new ID and key?  If you ended up with the same one, then delete the device again, wait 24 hours or so, might even say 48 hours, and then add it back again.  It could take a while for the database to update.

You should end  up with a new ID and key and then you'll take that info and add it to Ambient so the live data gets streamed to Wunderground.  I would also say to delete the config you currently have in Ambient for Wunderground.

Wunderground is run by AI (Artificial Intelligence), and its near impossible to get a hold of support for any issues. I think I found on other forums that if there any support issues, its just easier to delete and recreate the station connection and move on.

Remembering this day in 1979.. rain surprisingly changed to snow @mid morning and accumulated 2 to 4 inches in Philly metro. Significant tree damage in the area. The ensuing winter saw close to normal snow in our area. Jackpot that year was Norfolk/ Williamsburg who got pounded while we were mostly fringed...

I will give it 48 hours and try again.  I'll delete the account, passwords, etc. then.

!0,000 km tail of debris caused by DART asteroid strike.

Effect of the DART - not bad for a soda machine sized hunk of metal worth 325 million although I think they are a bit over the top about being ready for anything the universe throws at us.

Before the impact, the moonlet took 11 hours and 55 minutes to circle its parent asteroid. Scientists had hoped to shave off 10 minutes but NASA Administrator Bill Nelson said the impact altered the asteroid's orbit by about 32 minutes.

“This mission shows that NASA is trying to be ready for whatever the universe throws at us," Nelson said during a briefing at NASA headquarters in Washington.

Nope.  Even changed the name, password, etc.  I now live in a wunderground dead zone. :(

What do you use to send the data to Wunderground? Is it directly from your station to Wunderground or are you using a meteobridge to stream the data?

It goes weather station -> it's Ambient router -> 5G network. We upgraded to 5G this spring, it was working fine until October 7th.

Any chance your Wunderground connection settings in the Ambient router got reset? A couple of times a year my VP2 loses connection and it's always the same issue - Wunderground station id & password somehow reset to the default. I know they're different platforms but could be something similar?

I'm guessing you rebooted the station and router?

I didn't go outside and rebooted the station.  I did not reboot the Ambient router this time. The past reboots of the router did not work.  When I tried again today, I created new passwords.

Would I not see up-to-date "Live Data" if there was a transmission issue between the station, router and 5G?

You would see issues for sure. I have the meteobridge because my VP2 from Davis stopped communicating with Wunderground for whatever reason a few years back. I picked up the meteobridge in order to stream data out to multiple sites that I couldn't do with the Davis connection. You might want to try and setup another connection to another service, like pwsweather.com, to see if everything is getting streamed.  I also remember I have paid subscription with Wunderground, so not sure if that makes a difference or not.
