My favorite of these was Jan. 20 1978. Forecast right up to when it started the night before was an inch or 2 from Philly east, 2-4 north and west followed by heavy rain to wash it all away. In junior high at the time doing homework, watching the snow fall heavily and listening to KYW accu weather upping the totals seemingly every hour. As it turned out, 10 plus inches from adjacent south jersey on north and west .... and a long weekend!!....

Lou, growing up in NE Philly this was the first time in my life (I was 14 at the time) that I had ever seen a storm over 10". Kids today who like snow have no idea how snowy the last couple decades have been! I remember going to bed with 5" on the ground....my mom woke me up at 6am to help my dad (who worked the night shift) dig out the driveway - I was stunned to step out and see so much snow!

The late 50s and early/mid 60s rocked in Delco, 9 KUs, but 15" was the ceiling. Didn't see more than 15" locally until Feb 83 at age of 30.

Oh yes. Growing up in close by SNJ, my first experience of so much snow and a reverse busted snow forecast if you will. Made up for the dissapoinment 3 days prior which was forecast to be an all snow event (6"+ storm). That one changed to rain throughout the area, temps in the 40s the next morning and all of the snow was gone. Yes, prior to 1978, we may have had a few 6 inch type storms but most winters in the 1970-77 time frame were lethargic as far as snow goes.
