January 1st Ringing In The New Year With The Wrong Kind Of Ice Observations (North).

Winter Weather Advisory for Poconos & Sussex County.  Maybe some pinging sightings farther south and flake sightings at the start north.

Another one of these cases of a pornographic "snowfall" map in which the model was showing sleet (in all of Mount Holly's CWA and a chunk beyond).  You'd think an algorithm would just set the snowfall to zero once the 850s rose above freezing.

This little system has evolved into warning criteria for 5-8 up here in Colebrook with a few pingers thrown in for good measure.   Similar system on its heels Sunday night and Monday.

Yeah there was always going to be a cold air source below 850mb, the question for places farther south was whether or not the warmer mid layers would hold.  Happy New Year!

Tony, is this more of a CAD situation, or will the higher elevations see more frozen precip?

Our higher elevations are not high enough.  There is a favored zone at around 1500 feet that stays below freezing the longest, reason why Mount Pocono and High Point NJ have more than their fair share of ice.
