That was great that one year in the early 70s.  Going to school with an 830 starting time in the dark.

I vaguely remember that. Was that during the energy crisis ('73-'74)? Long gas lines and even/odd license plate restrictions I remember...

as of yesterday we have now entered the darkest period of the season, <10 hrs. of daylight, Tom's favorite time of the year will run thru 1/27

All I care about, I believe we are now under 10 minutes of afternoon daylight losses and the sunset either today or yesterday is the same as New Years Eve.  The end is near again.

Yup won't be long til longer days and scorching sun destroying our late season snow events. Now is the time we need a fluke dump of snow to make the most of this misery the next 4 weeks. Rarely happens though.

It's a good thing some of you don't live in Vermont, Maine, Minnesota, Washington, Alaska, Canada and so forth since you might not survive less than 9 hours of sunlight!

Well, they get snow during this dark period. That eases the pain. Although my friends in western NY are already complaining about the 15-20 inches of snow they've had this month. I told them to move down this way rarely do we have an early (prolonged) start to the snow season.
