General question: Can the Stratus rain gauges handle water freezing in the tube or will they break? I know cheaper plastic gauges crack easily.

I never give mine the chance, take the measuring inner tube out in the winter. Ultimately the numbers will fade out so that also prolongs the condition of the tube.

They break. Had it happen to me before

Good to know. Thanks. I know the larger tube is used for snow/core measurements. If water is in the bottom of that larger tube and it freezes, is there the same concern? I guess so? I guess I'll just bring it in for the winter.

On mine the larnger cylinder cracked as there was water in it that froze. Just bring the cylinder out when snow is forecasted

Good to know.  I'll bring mine in too now and bring it out as needed.
