Posted a tornado warning for my county? Seems odd..

Must be north of me, already clearing up

Additional  .25" total of 1.45"

Mesovortex.gif.24dd2235c9aeae21191870f1d66dd887.gif

The bow echo moving across our area seems to have developed a mesovortex (which is the piece that you can see rotating in the storm, a bit south of Philadelphia)

Mesovortices can produce tornadoes due to their rotation when there is sufficient shear + instability, which is why a tornado warning has been issued

On the TPHL radar, you can see the potentially rotating couplet, which I circled here... It's pretty tight in this radar image, so even if there isn't necessarily a tornado, the possibility is legitimate!

That is quite the rotation. That's pretty close to where @SouthernNJ lives.

sucky video - but best I could do on the fly with rain blowing at me

It seems like you recorded some clouds moving up into the updraft...? It doesn't look like there was a tornado in your video, but there were strong winds in/around your area, which you captured a bit of!

From Deptford, NJ... While fake photos and videos pop up on social media all of the time, this looks legit! Not much, but it does look like there's some circulation going on there... The couplet was pretty tight on radar for a time (though not very strong), and when considering the mesovortex formation, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some rotation and a tornado somewhere in there.

That video form Bankbridge road looks legit for sure based on what I saw here (my video didn’t capture much because I was trying to keep the phone out of the rain). It wasn’t that quite that defined here but something was happening - could have very well just been updraft that i captured but it was nasty for sure.

That looks like a massive updraft, but my eyes are old,  maybe there is some circulation within there.

Caveat about using power outages as the complete answer to trouble spots. The greatest, straightest line is down in Salem County w-e thru Salem. The power outages northeast of Bankbridge Road were more isolated (but still something) with the greatest concentration south of Valleybrook golf course in Camden County.

I happened to be near Route 77 at Pole Tavern when the line was moving through.  I was following it across from

Cecil and New Castle on radar, and was wondering why a SVR was not issued for the powerful wind signature near

Salem City at the time around 7:45 PM.  Thought about heading into the open fields to watch the line cross, but did

not want to risk not having a place to get out of the way in case of the damaging winds.  Stayed in Pole Tavern and got

the alert for a tornado warning, so decided to head back north on 77 after the rain stopped.  The videos I have are

from one mile south of the Gloucester/Salem border on Route 77.  One is looking north toward Mullica Hill, which

was about five to eight miles north of the location.

Video #1: Pole Tavern      8:12-8:13 PM

Video #2: Route 77 Eight miles south of Mullica Hill       8:16-8:17 PM

Video #3: 8:20 PM

Would imagine a couple of tornadoes occurred, based upon reports and radar data.  The one

on the fringes of Mullica Hill seemed short-lived, then perhaps a slighter longer one between

Wenonah and Blackwood at the Gloucester/Camden border.  Radar data from 8:30 to 8:34 PM

seems to correlate with video and damage reports in that corridor.  What gets lost in this is how

much wind damage occurred from the Cecil CWA border all the way to Woodstown.  I saw the

intensity of the straight-line winds on radar, which is why I wanted to watch the storm move

through.  These did much worse damage than the tornadoes, and no SVR was is effect at any

point along their path.

1.32 total yesterday.  0.66 before mid day and 0.66 during the evening storms.  Only a few snapped branches here from winds.  I saw the rotation in the radar last night.  Some of these videos and photos are wild. Thanks to all for sharing.  Glad everyone is safe.

This is really lost on many people, that straight line wind damage can cause considerably more damage than the climatological typical New Jersey tornado.  I think of the massive damage the June 2012 derecho caused.  Granted there is no science law against an EF2 or EF3 from occurring in NJ which would be much worse than any straight line event.  The ongoing power outages this morning in NJ are nowhere near Mullica Hill (which had none ongoing reported last evening when I checked).  The only ones that seem to still be storm related that are left are in Blackwood.

This is Cecil County:
