colonel_kurtz
Good stuff Tony! We know you have a soft spot for extended periods of cold. Looking at those years with double digit stretches my Philly Mt. Rushmore in terms of combination cold & snow: Feb 1899, not the longest run but the most intense culminating with a 3-day bone chilling blizzard Feb 1979, adding an extra day to the stretch & you have 16 days that averaged over 21 degrees below the current normal. Outside of PDI still over 13" of snow during the run. Jan / Feb 1961, added a couple of days to the stretch & you have (14) out (15) days with lows in the single digits, only tarnished by one (10) degree low. Not only did the stretch end with big event it also began with an even bigger bang. Jan 1893, (18) out of (19) days below freezing hosed by one 33 day, solid storm early in the stretch

In Delco, the Feb 61 storm started cold with powdery snow, warmed and changed to rain, and then ended as heavy wet snow.

iceman56
Down to 10.8 here in NW Chesco, dropping steadily, guessing it holds around 8 then goes up into the low teens as we get some cloud cover after midnight. Still a few shovel piles left waiting for Saturday's replenishment.

colonel_kurtz
25 / 13 split today at PHL for the date, 12/29, 25 degrees is coldest max temp since 25 in 1993 & is tied with several years as the 6th coldest max temp on record for the date the low of 13 is the coldest min temp since 13 in 1977 & is tied with a couple other years as the 7th coldest min on record going into today PHL was still a tick above average for the month, obviously that will change when today's #'s are added and this will go down as the 1st below normal DEC since 2010
