A couple of astronomical points that most people wouldn't get. The day's length on the vernal & autumnal equinoxes is longer than 12 hours and the sun sets earlier on Thanksgiving than it ever does on Christmas.

& with this silly late switch to EST our latest surise for the year occurs on NOV 2nd

evening twilight peaks at 9:05pm on 6/21 & runs thru 7/2

prime time for the daylight crew, it'll be 6-7 weeks before you even notice the changes

That is true, I don't start noticing anything til late July.  For me,  my day of sadness officially begins on June 29th this year; that is when sunsets start becoming earlier in Mount Laurel.

Yup, takes til August for the reverse cycle to set in. My birthday mid-August always marked the end of real summer to me but then the best 60 day stretch takes over through mid October. Then darkness-false start winter November/December rolls in.

I'm in late august, hated my birthday cause it always coincided with school beginning.

Hated my birthday because it is just after the start of EST and at the start of the stratocu forever season.

Gladly, that time of year is approaching fast. Soon it will be dark by 8pm

Better than 5 pm.   Of course that means I get to be 59 sooner....

There is something off-putting about the days getting shorter during the warmest few months of the year.  Alternatively, noticing that the sun is staying up later helps get through the late February doldrums.
