8/18 Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain Obs

Recommended Posts

hmm ... we'll have to see if we can get stronger gusts to mix down. Not much DCAPE... regardless, line looks solid! lots of lightning too.

Don't let the marine layer fool you, already over 1,000 J/KG mixed cape. However, shear and instability are displaced with very underwhelming lapse rates. So heavy rain first today.

Don't let the marine layer fool you.

Got it Mitch!!;)

Circulation aloft and some strong winds near Bechtelsville in Berks.

Surprised now at no SVR yet for Lancaster.

I've never seen so much lightning before on these maps. Approaching 1000 strikes/minute in the line forming to the west of us.

I guess that's what you get in a 80-degree dewpoint airmass.

Should make for an awesome show soon!

Marine layer can go to the start of the apps. Since it's low clouds it doesn't go over them.  We call it marine layer because it's low clouds and usually associated with drizzle.

Time to go outside and take a look in Gilbertsville. ;)

Thanks pal!! Lol

these 4pm obs are crazy. These storms seem to be solid. Shear being on the lower threshold may limit widespread severe threat. Still, plenty of lightning and strong updrafts.

Wouldn't be surprised if a TOR pops up near Red Hill/Green Lane.

TPHL suggests the storm is having a lower circulation than earlier.
