  1. A few things to consider when comparing PHL to elsewhere: 1 - PHL is the lowest location at its lattitude. Its just above sea level, but relatively protected from sea breeze because its on a river instead of on the ocean. Points west are all several hundred to several thousand feet above sea level. Many locations in the south that are not on the coast are also considerably elevated. Would it surprise you to know that ATL, for example, is 1,000 feet higher than PHL is? This plays a factor. 2 - Sometimes, individual cases are a result of weather and not climate. Here are PHL's average high temps from 1988-2017 vs. ATL's: MON MAY JUN JUL AUG PHL 74.3 83.3 87.7 85.5 ATL 80.6 87.0 89.8 88.7 Here are the highest temps observed in the listed calendar month at PHL vs ATL from 1988-2017: MON MAY JUN JUL AUG PHL 97 100 103 101 ATL 95 106 105 104 Here are the average number of 90-degree days in the listed calendar months at PHL vs ATL from 1988-2017: MON MAY JUN JUL AUG PHL 2 6 12 7 ATL 2 11 16 14
  2. Post Easter Rain to snow event 4/2

Maybe one day. I'm busy with other projects which take up my personal time these days, so little time for the winter archive. But, I still collect the necessary data in hopes that one day, I'll get back to it. It might not be til I'm a homebody saddled with a wife and kids, though
  3. Post Easter Rain to snow event 4/2

I suppose it wasn't bad for the first April snow in 11 years, even if it was less than an inch back home. Zilch here. Oh well, I suppose there's still a chance later on. That said, the difficulty of getting April snow down this way is noticeably greater here.

  6. Post Easter Rain to snow event 4/2

0.6" in Ewing so far, they've been in that gap on radar for a while. Lets see what this last band can do.
  7. Technically any snow that reaches the ground, melting on contact or not, is a "trace". That varies from those that melt on contact to those which whiten the ground but don't quite measure to 0.05".

  11. OK. A bit under my forecast from yesterday but not too far... 5.3" at IAD, 4.1" at DCA, 4.7" at BWI as of 8PM. Enough to verify the warning I issued at least, for most zones anyway. Most of the accumulations were between 8AM and 2PM. I had 5.2" at my house. Most places in the metro were 3-8", highest near Baltimore. Ewing is stuck at 7.1". It was little more than flurries for a while, now a little heavier, but with marginal temps it might be compacting.
  12. 5.2". Biggest event of the season for us. Now up to 7" in Ewing.

  14. Despite only 6.1" of snow at the 'rents in Ewing, a whopping 1.61" liquid equivalent for the day. Not surprising how areas that were just a little cooler got a whole lot more snow.
  15. 6.1" in Ewing is probably the storm total as its down to flurries now.
  16. Temperature/Obs/Boring Weather Discussion

I have trouble sleeping if it’s above 70 lately, and it was 73 when I went to bed last night, so I turned mine on. Turned back off when I woke up this morning, probably won’t need it again for a while... These are transplants from NJ, planted them a few years ago. This is their first time blooming in my VA yard...
  17. Temperature/Obs/Boring Weather Discussion

They were a racket in the swampy spots near me last night. I suspect they will be much quieter tonight.

  22. I had less than an inch most of the area, around an inch in the Pocs. Haven't seen a lot of reports, though did see the last PNS from after midnight. Since it didn't accumulate at all around the city, I guess I was a little high with the coating.
